Dear Friends of FTSP,
Hello again from Flipping the Script Productions!
It is hard to believe that summer has already come and gone. We hope you have all had a wonderful summer, and that the return to school, work, and the general rhythm of autumn has been treating you well. And to all those celebrating, we wish you a happy, healthy high holiday season.
There is something about the beginning of a new school year that always gets me thinking about young people and the theatre. Theatres and schools have long been places where young people are given the opportunity to discover their voices, try something new, and, perhaps most importantly, discover the joy of telling stories together. As another school year begins, it seems an appropriate time to remember how important those opportunities can be.
And as the weather begins to turn colder, I find myself thinking again about some of the other questions we have discussed here - particularly the possibilities of digital distribution and filmed theatre.
There is something rather fitting about the idea of theatre finding a larger audience just as people begin spending more time indoors. Could a filmed production introduce someone to a show they might otherwise never have encountered? Could it encourage an audience member to seek out the next live production? And could digital access help smaller productions reach people far beyond the communities in which they were originally performed?
These are questions we will continue to explore as we move into the fall.
For now, we are simply happy to be back, and we look forward to sharing more about what Flipping the Script Productions has planned for the coming months, including updates on our productions and where we hope to take them next.
