Dear Friends of Flipping The Script Productions,
Hi friends,
As we head into March, I wanted to share something a little more personal about a project that’s been living in my head (and heart) for quite a while.
On Sunday, March 29, Flipping the Script Productions will present two performances of Musicals Without Music by Peter Filichia, and I couldn’t be more excited about it.
Many of you know Peter’s name. He’s a longtime New York critic and writer, but more than that he’s a walking archive of Broadway history. He is a former president of the Drama Desk, and someone who has seen more theatre than most of us could in several lifetimes. But what makes this collaboration special to me is his deep love for theatre - the same passion inspired me to create FTS.
When the opportunity to work with Peter arose, I immediately thought that a reading would be our goal. Just like that, an intimate, immersive venue in Baltimore presented itself and it felt like the right fit at the right time.
What I love most about this piece is that it lives in the in-between moments. The spaces between the big numbers, the unsung thoughts, carry this story forward. It’s smart, funny, touching, and just a little irreverent. Seeing this production come to life over the past few weeks has been exciting to say the least, and my anticipation is growing as we search for the perfect cast.
Even though this is a Baltimore performance, I wanted you to hear directly from me about this next step for FTS. Collaborating with someone like Peter is a privilege, and bringing a new work to life, even for a single day, is the kind of artistic milestone that keeps me energized.
Our promotional efforts are also ramping up, with our recent press release stirring up some excitement. If you know anyone in the area, send them the information - we would love to welcome as many people as possible to enjoy!
If you happen to be in or around Baltimore yourself on March 29, I would absolutely love to see you there. We have a 2pm and a 6pm performance, and it would mean a lot to share the room with familiar faces.
