Flipping The Script - Issue 2

HELLO, FRIENDS OF FTSP!

Thanks for your patience. This is coming a lot later than you may have expected. Frankly, it's coming a lot later than I had hoped.

One of the key contributors to our team has been wrestling with health issues, and will unfortunately be absent for a while. Please send him positive energy and/or prayers. Until he's back in action, we will be working with a colleague of his, and I will be meeting with her this week to get her up to speed.

In the meantime, here is the latest on our work at Flipping the Script Productions.

Presenting at the League of Historic American Theatre conference.

I had the pleasure last week of attending the national conference of the League of Historic American Theatres, in Milwaukee. It's an organization I've belonged to for 24 years, whose members consist primarily of historic theatres all across the country, and businesses that provide them with a wide range of services, from plaster and painting to ticketing and marketing. It's an excellent place to meet and talk with some of the most important decision-makers in the American theatre industry.

Each year's conference features an EXPO, where many of these businesses have booths from which they discuss their services with other members. FTSP had a booth, staffed by yours truly, from which I had the pleasure not only of talking about my company and its goals but also specifically about our inaugural production, Melissa Borgerding's exciting new family dramedy, Someone Close To You.

I played the video of scenes from the play in a continuous loop (hat-tip to Stage Door Designs for the production work). Based on the unanimously positive response, I plan to make another appearance at next year's EXPO to talk about our progress in getting SCTY on its stage legs.

We also visited and took photos of the many historic theaters in downtown Milwaukee and the surrounding area, and had the chance to talk to the people operating them about the challenges of operating historic theaters, especially in the post-pandemic era.

I expect that, in August, our newsletter will be back on a more normal schedule, with an interview I recently did about why I started FTSP and my long-term plans for it.

Until then, thanks for reading, and break many legs!

Stephen
